About

Avery Schuster grew up in Simsbury, Connecticut. She graduated with a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2016. Avery attended Pratt Institute’s MFA program in 2019. She has shown her work in Rhode Island, Boston and Martha’s Vineyard.

Currently Avery lives and works in Tisbury, MA. Avery is interested in creating a world of vibrant colors, using comforting subjects and playful compositions. She is inspired by domestic, every day scenes, nature and its obscurities.  Avery is influenced by abstract expressionism. She is interested in the fine line between abstraction and life’s representational experience. While people rely on representation as a way of understanding the world she believes the abstract emotions are what navigates us. Avery often paints from life. Nature’s ever changing light and constant movement are aspects she strives to portray. Her paintings are a way of exploring, absorbing, and visually expressing the ethos around her.
